Samvedana (Being Sensitive): 5th S of 5 S for Meditating Manager

5th S of 5S for Meditating Manager is 'Samvedana'! It means 'Being Sensitive'!
'Samvedana' is living by keeping all your senses alive! Making your mind alert, attentive to every small thing happening around!

Are you sensitive to your surrounding? Are your senses alive? Is your mind breathing fresh air every moment?

When I am saying 'your surrounding' then it is not restricted to your home or your work place. Surrounding is everything and everybody who is around you! It could be your family, your colleague and even non-living things like your instruments and material.

We have increased pace of our lives- unnecessary though- to such an extent that we have become ignorant about our surrounding. We have become self-centered, selfish to that extent that we are least bothered about our surrounding.

You might have seen managers who are very particular about cleanliness at their home but throwing used paper napkins or water bottles on the road while driving. You might have seen managers who pay attention to hygiene at home but do not wash their hands after being to washroom in the office. You might have seen managers who are very kind to their kids but are yelling at their teams in office.

This insensitivity is not only towards people around us but it is about environment, animals, nature and every possible thing!
The education doesn't teach ethics! Education doesn't bring Samvedana (Sensitivity) in our character! It is a value which every manager shall consciously nurture and develop within self!

Generally, Managers view business as a battlefield. The appropriate statement would be they are conditioned to view business as a war! The logic behind this approach is simple. The insecurities make people unstable and unstable people are more active. However, we fail to understand that those who seem to be active may not be productive.

Managers need to re-learn that business is not a war and managers are not the war commanders. They shall not forget that they are dealing with people -either their colleagues or customers- to make them happy and not to conquer them!

In a hoard of achieving targets, meeting deadlines & completing projects, managers seldom pay attention to the humane aspect of their team members.

A meditating manager needs to be sensitive to other's feelings & emotions! S/he needs to understand the triggers which can calm down or even provoke his/her team members.

A meditating manager is essentially a human with kind heart and not an emotionless creature. Many a times, kindness is being viewed as a weakness of a manager. It is not! Rather, it is a strength which is being possessed & practiced by very few managers.

Treat your people with respect and dignity. As a result, you will notice that you need not to demand for respect from your team, it will flow automatically! Be sensitive towards their emotional swings, extend support to them, create a comfort level for your people to save them from getting emotionally exhausted. Be sensitive!

Samvedana (Sensitivity) cannot be borrowed. It cannot be artificial. It has to be more natural. Do not confuse Samvedana (Sensitivity) with sympathy, it is more of caring and being respectful!

Samvedana (Sensitivity) means that you are attentive; you are caring towards yourself, towards people, towards your customers, towards your organization and ultimately towards your surrounding!
